The root chakra is the first chakra in the human body and the foundation for a healthy, open chakra system. Located at the base of the spine, its Sanskrit name, Muladhara, means root.

Represented by the color red, the root chakra's key focus is action and speed. It's associated with the earth element, Earth and Mars planets, and astrology signs Aries, Leo, and Sagittarius.
When the root chakra is blocked or unbalanced, you may feel fearful, out of control, distrusting, and indecisive. Further, being a workaholic may signify an unbalanced root chakra.
When the root chakra is open and balanced, you have self-confidence and physical energy and strength. In addition, you'll feel secure, grounded, and connected to others and have healthy survival instincts.
